For nearly five decades, Tony DeMicoli has been the beating heart of Portland's vibrant music scene. To honor his incredible contributions, we're throwing a grand celebration - a birthday bash that promises to be as unforgettable as the countless nights of music Tony has given us over the years. Born in Malta and raised in Brooklyn, Tony became a driving force in Portland's music landscape. His creative energy and passion breathed life into renowned venues like the Long Goodbye, Luis' La Bamba, and most notably, the legendary Key Largo (home of the current Barrel Room!). Nestled under the Burnside Bridge, Key Largo was Portland's music epicenter for 15 years. Tony's dedication brought an impressive array of local, regional, and international acts to its stage seven nights a week. From Curtis Salgado to Etta James, Nushooz to Sheryl Crow, Dan Reed, Quarterflash, Crazy 8's, Bruce Hornsby and Johnny and the Distractions, Key Largo became a launchpad for countless careers and a must-play venue for established artists. Tony's impact extended far beyond Key Largo. He ran a production company, managed entertainment for the Portland Rose Festival, and played crucial roles in events like the Waterfront Blues Festival. As a founding member and long-time President of the Portland Music Association, Tony was instrumental in producing Portland's popular Mayor's Ball (1985 - 1992), bringing national recording industry attention to our city's rich, creative live music community.
